Sitting with our feelings

It can take great courage to really sit with our feelings, allowing ourselves to surrender to their powerful energies. All too often we set our feelings aside, thinking we will deal with them later. If we don’t deal with them, we end up storing them in our minds and bodies and this is when anxiety and other health issues can arise.Being in touch with our feelings, no matter how scary it seems, is really the best thing we can do for ourselves.

One of the reasons we tend to hide or push aside our feelings is that we live in a culture that has not supported emotional awareness. However, as the connection between mind and body became clearer, the importance of feeling our feelings has grown.

When we simply allow ourselves to fully feel our feelings as they come, we tend to let them go easily. This is all we are required to do; our feelings simply want to be felt.

We often complicate the situation by logical analysis of it, when all we really need is to allow it to pass through us. As the earth allows the rain to fall upon it, in the same way, the purpose of our feelings is for them to be felt and to transform our inner world by sometimes creating space for more feelings to flow, or sometimes providing a platform for realizations and growth.

All we need to do is allow the process by opening up and receiving the bounty of our emotions. By becoming more vulnerable with ourselves we grow our depth, just like water forms canyons in earth. Depth is a true wealth. You wouldn’t honor a shallow well or shallow ocean. The beauty of them lies in their depth and vastness. And so does the beauty of our being.

Become vulnerable and allow yourself to grow in your depth and your breadth. We are meant to expand and we are meant to become more beautiful as we mature. Let us give ourselves that opportunity.
